Prominent founding member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Adamu Waziri, has parted ways with the party and joined the African Democratic Congress (ADC), citing a loss of direction and the urgent need for credible opposition in Nigeria.
Waziri, a former minister and member of the PDP Board of Trustees, announced his resignation on Monday, July 7, at his Dogo Tebo Ward in Potiskum, Yobe State.
He followed party protocol by formally notifying his ward executives, in line with PDP’s internal rules.
“I was a member of PDP, and due to the exigencies of the moment and in the interest of the nation, I have decided to resign,” Waziri said during the announcement.
He said the PDP no longer represents the values of strong opposition, which he believes are crucial at this time in Nigeria’s political history.
While acknowledging the emotional weight of the decision, he maintained it was necessary to support a platform that could bring real change.

Waziri also urged his supporters to consider joining the new political movement, which is gaining momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections.
His departure was met with deep regret by the PDP Ward Chairman, Malam Muhammad Bomai, who described Waziri as a foundational pillar of the party.
“Waziri has been an institution within the PDP, and we will feel his absence deeply,” Bomai said.
In a surprising twist, Bomai also announced his resignation from the PDP and immediate defection to the ADC, aligning himself with Waziri’s vision for a stronger, more credible opposition that can challenge the current political order.
Waziri’s defection is seen as part of a growing shift among key political figures seeking an alternative platform to drive national change, particularly under the opposition coalition recently formed on the ADC platform.
