The National Publicity Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Debo Ologunagba, has affirmed that former President Goodluck Jonathan remains a member of the party and has not resigned, dispelling speculations about his political affiliation ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Ologunagba made the clarification on Wednesday while speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show, where he also addressed questions about potential presidential aspirants following the PDP’s decision to zone its ticket to the South.
“President Jonathan is still a member of this party because he has not resigned,” Ologunagba said.
However, he declined to comment on the possible return of former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi, stating that Obi had not formally indicated any intention to rejoin the PDP.
“Mr. Obi was a presidential candidate in the last election for another political party. He has not indicated that he’s joining the party. So, for me, it would be improper to begin to comment on that,” he explained.

The PDP spokesman instead highlighted the party’s strength, noting that it is blessed with several qualified individuals capable of leading Nigeria.
He described Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, as one of the party’s shining examples of leadership and performance.
“Governor Makinde is one of our poster boys in this party in terms of performance, capacity, and galvanising Nigerians. People see promise in the country through that individual,” Ologunagba said.
He stressed that the PDP continues to boast of “eminently qualified Nigerians and performing governors” who reflect the party’s enduring relevance in the nation’s political landscape.
