A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) led by Tanimu Turaki has fixed Tuesday, May 19, for the screening of former President Goodluck Jonathan as the party’s sole presidential aspirant ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued by the PDP faction aligned with Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, announcing the constitution of a 14-member screening committee for Jonathan.
Among those appointed to the panel are former Vice-President Namadi Sambo, former Plateau State governor Jonah Jang, and former Minister of Foreign Affairs Tom Ikimi.
Other members of the committee include Chief Olabode George, Babangida Aliyu, Maryam Ciroma, Zainab Maina, Josephine Anenih, Dr. Abdul Bulama, Dr. Esther Uduehi, Edo State PDP chairman Tony Aziegbemi, Dr. Sunday Solari, and Chief Anicho Okoro, who will serve as the administrative secretary.
The faction’s National Publicity Secretary, Ini Ememobong, had earlier revealed that Jonathan successfully completed the party’s fresh digital membership registration exercise directed by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The party faction also disclosed plans to screen 748 House of Representatives aspirants, 198 senatorial aspirants, 112 governorship hopefuls, and 2,122 State House of Assembly aspirants across the country.
According to the statement, the nationwide screening exercise is scheduled to begin on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, by 10:00 a.m. in various states.
The Interim National Working Committee (iNWC) of the faction also released names of members appointed into the Screening Committees and Screening Appeal Panels.
The statement added that the release of the screening arrangements was in line with the party’s timetable and guidelines for preparations toward the 2027 general elections.
