The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has suspended the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, over alleged anti-party activities.

The suspension was announced after a state executive council meeting in Umuahia, where party leaders accused Wabara of actions unbecoming of a former Senate president and BoT chairman.

According to the party, Wabara endorsed Labour Party Governor Alex Otti for a second term just five months into his tenure. The PDP alleged that despite being given time to apologise, Wabara refused.

State PDP chairman Elder Amah Abraham stated that a seven-man disciplinary committee would investigate Wabara’s alleged misconduct, in line with the party’s disciplinary procedures.

Citing Articles 59(1)(e) & (f) of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended), Abraham confirmed that Wabara had been barred from holding any party office and removed as BoT chairman.

In a statement, the party declared: “Senator Adolphus Wabara… in a brazen display of sabotage to the party, unilaterally endorsed the Labour Party governor of Abia State, Alex Otti, for a second term in office, barely five months after inauguration, and thereby brought the party to disrepute, hatred, and contempt.”

The party further alleged that Wabara’s actions had “undermined the credibility of the PDP, demoralised party members and stakeholders, and emboldened the opposition.”

With Wabara refusing to deny the allegations, the PDP insisted that disciplinary action was necessary to uphold party discipline, stressing that no member was above the constitution of the party.
