The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) National Executive Committee (NEC) has approved November 15–16, 2025, for its Elective National Convention in Ibadan, Oyo State, to elect a new set of national officers.
This decision was part of the resolutions reached at the party’s 101st NEC meeting held Thursday, July 24, 2025, in Abuja, where key issues affecting the party and its role as Nigeria’s leading opposition platform were deliberated.
Resolutions at the Meeting:
1. Unity and Stability:
NEC expressed satisfaction with the resolution of internal disagreements within the party, describing it as evidence of PDP’s commitment to dialogue, unity, and democratic values.
2. PDP Remains Strong Opposition:
The committee reassured members and Nigerians that the PDP remains united, focused, and repositioned to lead efforts in rescuing Nigeria from what it termed the “catastrophic misrule” of the APC.
3. Convention Timetable Approved:
The NEC ratified the 2025 Elective National Convention schedule, fixing November 15–16 for the event in Ibadan.
4. INEC Notification:
The National Chairman, Amb. Iliya Damagum, and National Secretary, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, were directed to formally notify INEC in compliance with Section 82(1) of the Electoral Act 2022.
5. Convention Committees:
Membership of both the National Convention Committee and the Zoning Committee was approved to ensure transparency and credibility in the convention process.
6. Defectors to Lose Seats:
NEC directed the National Working Committee (NWC) to commence immediate legal action to reclaim seats from lawmakers who defected from the PDP to other parties, citing Sections 68(1)(g) and 109(1)(g) of the Constitution.

7. Warning to Disloyal Members:
The party frowned at reports of some members attending meetings of other political parties, warning them to desist and reaffirm loyalty to the PDP.
8. Reassurance to Aggrieved Members:
NEC assured such members that their concerns are being addressed and urged them to remain committed.
9. Open for Alliances:
The party reiterated readiness to work with like-minded Nigerians in the mission to oust the APC government and deliver a people-oriented administration in 2027.
10. Commitment to Democracy:
NEC reaffirmed PDP’s dedication to democratic ideals and its determination to lead Nigerians toward change in 2027.
11. Next Meeting:
The 102nd NEC meeting was scheduled for Monday, August 25, 2025.
