The National Working Committee (NWC) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has declared the suspension of the party’s Board of Trustees (BoT) chairman, Senator Adolphus Wabara, as null and void.
In a statement signed by PDP National Publicity Secretary, Debo Ologunagba, the party dismissed the decision of its Abia State chapter, citing Section 57(7) of the PDP Constitution (2017 as amended), which bars state working committees from taking disciplinary actions against members of the National Executive Committee (NEC) without approval from the NWC.
“The purported suspension of Senator Adolphus Wabara is of no effect. No state chapter has the authority to sanction a NEC member without due recourse to the NWC,” the statement read.
The party further condemned Wabara’s suspension, warning that it would take appropriate measures to uphold stability and discipline within its ranks.
Background to the Suspension
The Abia State PDP had earlier suspended Wabara over alleged anti-party activities, accusing him of endorsing Labour Party Governor Alex Otti for a second term, just five months into his tenure.

Announcing the suspension after a state executive council meeting in Umuahia, Abia PDP Chairman Elder Amah Abraham said Wabara was given time to retract his stance but refused. A seven-member disciplinary committee was also set up to investigate the matter.
The state chapter, citing Articles 59(1)(e) & (f) of the PDP Constitution, claimed that Wabara’s actions had “demoralised party members and stakeholders” and “emboldened the opposition.”
However, with the NWC’s intervention, Wabara remains the PDP’s BoT chairman, as the party’s leadership moves to resolve internal disputes.
