PEBEC Hails FRSC for Clearing Driver’s Licence Backlog Nationwide

The Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) has offered its strong commendation to the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for swiftly clearing the nationwide backlog in driver’s licence production and restoring efficiency to the system.

Princess Zahrah Mustapha Audu, the Director General of PEBEC, issued a statement on Wednesday, the 19th of November, 2025, stating that the FRSC’s prompt action came after the Council’s formal request was made on the 7th of November, 2025, for an urgent review of the licence production process.

PEBEC reported that the FRSC responded effectively to the request by conducting a comprehensive internal audit, which successfully uncovered the bottlenecks responsible for delays, and promptly implementing necessary corrective measures.

The Council highlighted the success of these measures, stating: “This effort has now resulted in the full restoration of the system and a significant increase in daily production capacity to 15,000 licences.”

A key innovation praised by the Council is the introduction of the Contactless Biometric Capture System. This new technology is critical, as it now enables permanent driver’s licences to be ready within 48 hours and reducing reliance on temporary licences. PEBEC hailed this development as a key stride toward enhanced transparency, regulatory efficiency, and improved citizen experience.

To consolidate the gains achieved, PEBEC urged all applicants whose licences are now ready to visit FRSC centres nationwide to collect them. This request aligns with the Corps’ ongoing campaign aimed at distributing more than 294,000 unclaimed licences. The Council believes that this collective action will ease congestion at service centres and further improve turnaround time.

Reaffirming its commitment to effective service delivery, PEBEC stated it will continue working with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure seamless, responsive, and business-friendly public service delivery across the country.

The Council concluded by underscoring the benefits of public cooperation with the FRSC’s collection campaign, stating: “This will help decongest service centres, improve turnaround times, and support the Corps’ ongoing efforts to enhance operational efficiency”.
