Peter Obi, the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 elections, has thrown his weight behind Dr Moses Paul of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), promising to personally join street campaigns to rally support for him in the Abuja Municipal Area Council (AMAC) election.
Obi gave his backing during an Independence programme held at the Merit House in Abuja, organised by Paul and his councillorship candidates to engage residents ahead of the formal campaign launch.
The former governor of Anambra State said his confidence in Paul’s candidacy comes from his belief that the ADC candidate would deliver credible leadership.
According to Obi, “I know he will not disappoint the people if elected to lead AMAC.”
The council election for AMAC in the Federal Capital Territory is slated for February 2026.

In his address, Paul criticised what he described as years of failed leadership in AMAC, vowing to restore dignity and service if given the mandate.
He anchored his campaign on the slogan We Don’t Tire!, telling residents that the time had come to demand change.
“The bitter truth must be told: AMAC has failed,” Paul said.
“Our markets are trapped in endless litigations, waste management has collapsed, schools were abandoned for months, our health centres are dead, insecurity is everywhere, businesses are strangled by multiple taxation, and infrastructure is practically non-existent. This is not governance. This is abandonment.”
Paul, however, stressed that his movement is about solutions rather than lamentations.
He pledged to prioritise development, strengthen institutions, and restore prosperity to AMAC, assuring residents that he would focus on tangible improvements in their daily lives.
