Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has called on the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to extend the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise to at least 90 days before general elections to enable more eligible Nigerians to participate in the electoral process.
Obi made the appeal on Saturday in a post shared via his official X account after visiting an INEC Continuous Voter Registration Centre in Enugu.
According to him, he stopped at the registration centre after attending the graduation ceremony of the Millennium College of Nursing Sciences in Awka, Anambra State.
The former Anambra State governor said he was impressed by the orderly and well-organised registration process and commended the commitment of Nigerians who turned out to register.

“I was pleased to witness an orderly and well-organised registration process. I also met a number of people patiently queuing to register, demonstrating their commitment to participating in our democracy. I commend the INEC staff for their dedication and professionalism,” he wrote.
Obi, however, urged the electoral umpire to extend the duration of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise, arguing that a longer registration period would allow more eligible citizens to obtain their Permanent Voter Cards and participate in elections.
“I urge INEC to extend the Continuous Voter Registration exercise to at least 90 days before the General Elections to give more eligible Nigerians the opportunity to register and participate in the electoral process,” he stated.
Reaffirming his belief in national transformation, Obi concluded his message with his signature slogan: “A New Nigeria is Possible.”
