Peter Obi Declares 2027 Presidential Bid

Former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi has formally announced he will run for president in the 2027 Nigerian election.

Obi made the announcement on Sunday, February 1, 2026, during a political event in Abuja.

He confirmed that he will not accept a vice-presidential position, stating that he intends to lead the ticket as the principal candidate.

Obi previously served as governor of Anambra State from 2006 to 2014, overseeing reforms in education, healthcare, and infrastructure.

He was the Labour Party’s presidential candidate in the 2023 election, where he secured a significant number of votes nationwide and finished third.

In his statement, Obi reaffirmed his commitment to contesting for the presidency and confirmed that his name will appear on the ballot as a principal candidate.
