Labour Party presidential candidate in the 2023 election, Peter Obi, has paid glowing tribute to Nigeria’s fallen military heroes as the country marked Armed Forces Remembrance Day, urging leaders and citizens alike to build a nation worthy of their sacrifice.
In a reflective message shared via his official X account on Thursday, Obi described the annual remembrance as a solemn moment to honour soldiers who laid down their lives in service to the nation and to recommit to values of peace, progress and responsible leadership.
He noted that fallen soldiers live on, not in graves, but in the hearts and minds of those they protected—citizens who slept peacefully while brave men and women stood guard under harsh conditions, day and night.
Obi stressed that the most meaningful way to honour the fallen is through leadership that restores hope, promotes justice and advances national development. He also acknowledged the deep pain endured by families of fallen heroes, describing the day as a reminder of “an empty chair and a voice no longer heard.”

While admitting that nothing can replace such loss, Obi reassured families that the sacrifices of their loved ones were not in vain, praying for eternal honour and rest for the fallen.
