Peter Obi’s NDC Move Temporary, May Soon Face Political Pushback  — Arabambi

Factional Labour Party National Vice Chairman (South West), Abayomi Arabambi, has said former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, may still face political challenges despite emerging as the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).

Arabambi spoke during an appearance on the News Night on Sunday, May 31, where he reacted to Obi’s emergence as the NDC flag bearer for the next general election.

The Labour Party chieftain argued that Obi’s decision to move to the NDC should not be viewed as the conclusion of his political journey, suggesting that internal political developments could still shape his future.

Peter Obi’s move to the NDC is not his final destination. If he thinks he has found a safe haven after destabilising the Labour Party, he may soon face serious political pushback from those still within the party structure.

“He cannot weaken a platform and simply move on without consequences, as internal political realities will eventually catch up with him.

“Ultimately, the political space is competitive, and no one can impose themselves without broad acceptance.

“However, the final decision rests with Nigerians, and no candidate can become president without addressing issues of governance, accountability, and the fight against corruption,” he said.

Arabambi’s comments come amid continuing political realignments ahead of the next election cycle, following Obi’s emergence as the NDC presidential standard-bearer after previously contesting the 2023 presidential election under the Labour Party platform.
