Nigerian music star and former member of the defunct P-Square duo, Peter Okoye, widely known as Mr P, has sparked reactions online after announcing plans to change his birthday date.
In a post shared on Monday afternoon via his official X (formerly Twitter) account, the singer simply wrote, “I am officially changing my birthday date.”
The statement, which came without any explanation, quickly drew attention from fans and social media users, especially given Peter’s long-standing public profile both in entertainment and within the well-documented tensions in the Okoye family.
Peter Okoye first gained widespread fame as one half of P-Square, the award-winning music group he formed with his twin brother, Paul Okoye, popularly known as Rudeboy.
The duo became one of Africa’s most successful pop acts in the 2000s and early 2010s, delivering a string of hit songs and sold-out performances before internal disagreements led to their split.

The group’s initial breakup became public around 2015, largely fueled by disputes over management, with their elder brother, Jude Okoye, who previously handled their affairs, playing a central role in the business structure.
Over time, issues relating to royalties, creative direction, and family involvement deepened the rift. By 2017, P-Square officially went their separate ways, with both brothers launching solo careers under the names Mr P and Rudeboy.
In November 2021, the twins reconciled, in a moment that was widely celebrated by fans across the continent.
The reunion led to joint appearances, performances, and new musical releases, although it did not fully replicate the commercial dominance of their earlier years.
Despite the reconciliation, reports later suggested that tensions had not been fully resolved. Disputes reportedly resurfaced over financial transparency, royalty distribution, and the structure managing their music catalogue.
Peter has also previously raised concerns about alleged irregularities within their former management arrangement, leading to renewed public exchanges and legal actions involving members of the Okoye family.
The situation further complicated public perception of the once-celebrated musical partnership.
