The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has reported the killing of scores of terrorists attempting to disrupt repairs on the Shiroro-Kaduna transmission line.
The operation took place on Friday as NAF fighter jets launched airstrikes on the terrorists, who were suspected of planning further attacks on the vital infrastructure and potentially targeting electricity workers.
On Monday night, NAF spokesman Air Commodore Olusola Akinboyewa provided an update, confirming that intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance operations had identified the terrorists in the area.
“They were converging to disrupt the repair of the transmission line,” Akinboyewa stated. “The terrorists were subsequently engaged, and several of them were killed in the process.”
The transmission line supplies electricity to northern states, which recently experienced over a week of power outages following damage to towers by these assailants.
In response, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu directed the National Security Adviser, the Minister of Defence, and Service Chiefs to deploy troops to safeguard repair crews working on the line.
