Tragedy struck in the Odogunyan area of Ikorodu, Lagos State, as a 19-year-old girl, Opesusi Faith Timilehin, reportedly died by suicide on Monday after scoring 190 in the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
Timilehin, who hailed from Abeokuta, Ogun State, was said to have been living with her elder sister in Ikorodu. According to reports circulating on social media and confirmed by community sources, she had applied to study Microbiology and was disheartened by what she considered a disappointing score.
A Facebook user who shared the news on Wednesday revealed that Timilehin had sat for the JAMB examination last year and reportedly scored higher than her current 190. Neighbours and community members described her as “gentle, humble, and academically driven.”
According to the account, she allegedly ingested poison at home and later went to her sister’s office, requesting palm oil to reduce the effect of what she had consumed. The request was reportedly ignored, possibly due to unawareness of the urgency.

She was rushed to Kolak Hospital in Ikorodu, where she was confirmed dead shortly after arrival.
In a heartbreaking twist, it was disclosed that just 30 minutes after her death, Timilehin received a provisional admission offer via email—reportedly from JAMB—into her preferred course of study.
Her death has sparked emotional reactions online, with many calling for improved mental health awareness, especially among students grappling with academic pressure and societal expectations.
Efforts are ongoing to reach JAMB and the deceased’s family for further comments.
