Troops of the Nigerian Army, working with other security agencies, have rescued a kidnap victim, identified as Prince Micheal Akao, and neutralised three suspected kidnappers during an intelligence-led operation in Edo State.
According to a statement issued by the Nigerian army and shared on its Facebook page on Tuesday night, the operation was conducted on Sunday, October 11, 2026, in Sasaro Forest, Akoko-Edo Local Government Area, following a tip-off.
It was gathered that troops of the 195 Battalion (Rear), in collaboration with other security agencies, launched a search operation in the forest, leading to the rescue of Akao and the neutralisation of the three suspected kidnappers.
The troops also recovered three locally fabricated guns, nine cartridges and other items during the operation.
The rescued victim was immediately evacuated to a hospital for medical attention and is responding to treatment.

The army stated that the recovered items had been handed over to the Department of State Services (DSS), while the bodies of the suspected kidnappers were transferred to the Nigeria Police Force for further action.
The Nigerian Army said it would sustain intelligence-driven operations in collaboration with other security agencies to dismantle kidnapping networks, deny criminal groups safe havens and protect communities.
The operation forms part of ongoing efforts by security agencies to prevent criminal elements from using forested areas as hideouts to threaten lives and public safety.
