Troops of the Joint Task Force North West, Operation FANSAN YAMMA, have foiled two separate abduction attempts and rescued 10 victims in different locations across Zamfara State.
According to a statement issued on Monday by the JTF Media Information Officer, Lt. Col. Aliyu Danja, the operations were conducted on Sunday, September 27, 2026, in Maru and Tsafe Local Government Areas of the state.
In Maru LGA, troops of Sector 2 received information that terrorists had abducted villagers at Kade Daba Village in Kanoma District.
The troops swiftly mobilised to the location and engaged the terrorists, leading to the immediate rescue of three victims.
Further exploitation of the area resulted in the rescue of another victim, bringing the total number rescued in the operation to four.
In a separate incident on the same day, troops conducting a picketing operation along the Tsafe-Funtua Road in Tsafe LGA heard sporadic gunshots ahead of their position at Kwanoni.
The troops immediately moved towards the location and encountered terrorists withdrawing through the surrounding high ground.
They engaged the attackers, forcing them to flee the area in disarray.
Before the arrival of the troops, the terrorists had reportedly set a Sharon vehicle ablaze while attempting to abduct its occupants.

The occupants, however, managed to escape before the vehicle was completely engulfed by the fire.
During the incident, the troops also rescued six people from another vehicle that had lost control following the sporadic gunshots.
The affected vehicle was subsequently towed away from the main road to allow traffic to flow freely.
The Theatre Commander, JTF NW Operation FANSAN YAMMA, commended the troops for their vigilance, swift response and professionalism in protecting residents along major routes and communities within the Joint Task Force’s area of responsibility.
The commander reaffirmed the resolve of the operation to sustain offensive operations against terrorists and deny them freedom of movement across the North-West.
He also urged members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information on suspicious movements and activities to the nearest security agency or through appropriate official channels.
