Troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE (OPWS) have intercepted a vehicle loaded with suspected hard drugs during a routine stop-and-search operation in Akwanga, Nasarawa State.
According to a statement shared on the Nigerian Army’s Facebook page on Wednesday, and released by the Acting Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force, Lieutenant Ahmad Zubairu, the incident occurred on Tuesday around Anguwan Malama in Akwanga Local Government Area.
The troops reportedly stopped an ash-coloured Toyota Solara with registration number KJA-108FY (Lagos), but the driver abandoned the vehicle and fled into nearby bushes upon sighting the soldiers.
Despite an immediate pursuit, the suspect managed to escape.
A subsequent search of the vehicle led to the discovery of several bags of substances suspected to be marijuana.

The vehicle and the recovered items have been taken into custody for further investigation and will be handed over to the appropriate authorities.
The Force Commander of Operation WHIRL STROKE, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their alertness, professionalism, and commitment to duty. He delivered the commendation through the Commander of Sector 2, Brigadier General D.C. Nwakonobi.
Gara reaffirmed the Joint Task Force’s resolve to deny criminal networks freedom of action, strengthen collaboration with other security agencies, and ensure continued peace and stability across Benue, Nasarawa, and Taraba States.
