Troops of Operation HADIN KAI (OPHK) have foiled separate attacks by Boko Haram and ISWAP terrorists on Forward Operating Bases (FOBs) in Borno State, inflicting casualties on the attackers and recovering weapons and other equipment.
The military said that two Jama’atu Ahlis Sunna Lidda’awati wal-Jihad (JAS) terrorists, including a Qaid, and commanders surrendered with three AK-47 rifles and other weapons.
According to a statement issued on Friday by the Acting Military Information Officer, Headquarters Joint Task Force, Capt. Mohammed Goni, the attacks and surrender were recorded between September 16 and 17, 2026.
The statement said terrorists advancing towards FOB Gajiram in Nganzai Local Government Area on September 17 were detected early by troops, with support from Multinational Joint Task Force (MNJTF) Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) assets.
Troops immediately adopted defensive measures while the Air Component of Operation HADIN KAI provided close air support, forcing the terrorists to withdraw from the vicinity into adjoining areas.
In a related development, several ISWAP terrorists attacked FOB Mairari in Guzamala Local Government Area but encountered stiff resistance from troops, supported by close air support from the Air Component.
The coordinated response, according to the army, contained the attack and inflicted casualties on the terrorists while the troops maintained control of the military base.
A subsequent exploitation of the area led to the recovery of four terrorists’ bodies, AK-47 rifles, magazines, ammunition, RPG bombs and a camcorder, among other items.
The military further disclosed that some of its troops sustained injuries during the engagement and were promptly stabilised before being airlifted to a hospital, where they are receiving medical treatment.
The Commander, Sector 3, Operation HADIN KAI, later conducted a post-engagement assessment of the affected locations and coordinated follow-on operations.

The military said the affected locations were reinforced to consolidate the gains and strengthen their defensive posture, while troops continued to exploit surrounding areas to prevent the terrorists from regrouping.
Meanwhile, sustained military pressure also led to the surrender of two JAS terrorists, including a Qaid, to troops of Sector 1, Operation HADIN KAI, along the Miyanti-Darel Jamel axis of the Main Supply Route in Bama Local Government Area.
The terrorists surrendered on the night of September 16 with three AK-47 rifles, five magazines, a motorcycle and a cache of ammunition.
They are currently in military custody undergoing preliminary investigation and profiling.
The Theatre Commander, Joint Task Force (North East), Operation HADIN KAI, Major General Ibikunle Ajose, commended the troops, MNJTF ISR team and aircrew for their vigilance, courage and coordination.
Ajose reaffirmed the military’s determination to sustain pressure on terrorist elements and protect communities across the North-East.
He also urged terrorists still operating in the bush to lay down their arms and surrender through established channels, while calling on members of the public to continue providing timely and credible information to security forces.
