Unknown gunmen have attacked a military base along the Igbeti–Igboho road in Oorelope Local Government Area of Oyo State, setting a patrol vehicle and part of the facility ablaze.
The attack occurred between 5:30 a.m. and 6:00 a.m. on Sunday, September 13, 2026, according to a security update from the Oorelope Local Government Command.
The attackers reportedly stormed the Operation Burst base in large numbers and opened fire on security personnel stationed at the facility.
A distress call prompted the immediate mobilisation of the Oorelope Local Government Command, with operatives from other security agencies also deployed to the area.
However, the gunmen had fled before the security team arrived at the base.
Security personnel subsequently combed the surrounding area and attempted to track down the attackers, but no arrests were made.

Despite the attack, no death was recorded, according to the security update.
The gunmen, however, allegedly set fire to a block within the military base and a patrol van, destroying the vehicle and damaging part of the facility.
The Oyo State Police Command also confirmed the incident.
Speaking to Channels Television, the command’s spokesman, DSP Ayanlade Olayinka, said the facility attacked was an Army outpost located along the Igboho–Igbeti road in the Oke-Ogun area of the state.
“It was an army outpost along Igboho/Igbeti road. No life was lost but some properties damaged,” he said.
Investigation into the attack has commenced as security agencies work to identify and apprehend those responsible.
The incident has raised fresh concerns about security in the area, coming just a day before the resumption of the new academic session across Oyo State.
