Troops of Sector 2, Operation Fansan Yamma, have neutralized two terrorists, rescued three kidnapped victims and recovered arms, ammunition and other items during separate operations in Zurmi and Shinkafi Local Government Areas of Zamfara State.

The military said the operations were part of ongoing efforts to dismantle terrorist and bandit networks operating across the North-West region.

According to a statement issued on Saturday by the Acting Deputy Director of Army Public Relations, Lt. Olaniyi Osoba, troops on a fighting patrol covering Birnin Saba, Yanbuki and Sabon Garin Daudawa communities in Zurmi Local Government Area made contact with a group of terrorists in the Yanbuki District on June 12.

A firefight reportedly ensued, during which troops neutralized one terrorist and recovered weapons and other items from the scene.

Items recovered included rifles, four magazines loaded with ammunition, two motorcycles, seven mobile phones, two MP3 players, a woodland camouflage trouser and an inner vest.

The military said that as troops advanced towards Sabon Garin Daudawa, the terrorists abandoned their camp and fled after sensing the approach of security forces.

Troops subsequently cleared the area and completely destroyed the suspected terrorist enclave.

In another operation along the Shinkafi–Moriki axis, troops conducting a routine patrol successfully ambushed a group of terrorists.
