The General Officer Commanding (GOC) 2 Division, Nigerian Army, and Commander Sector 3 Operation FANSAN YAMA, Major General C.R. Nnebeife, has led troops in a rescue operation that freed two kidnapped victims during an operational visit to Patrol Base Babanla in Kwara State.

According to a statement shared on the Nigerian Army’s Facebook page on Saturday and signed by Lieutenant Colonel Polycarp Okoye, Acting Deputy Director, Army Public Relations, 2 Division, the rescue followed a bandit attack near Idofin in Ayekale village, Omu-Aran Local Government Area of Kwara State, where three traders were killed at Olegbede village, about 12 kilometres from Idofin Ayekale.

Major General Nnebeife visited the Chief of Ayekale, Oba Pius Oluwole Oni Dofin of Idofin Odoeshe Ayekale, on 9 October 2025, to commiserate with the community over the incident and reaffirm the army’s commitment to protecting lives and property.

During the visit, Oba Pius attributed the frequent attacks on his community to its proximity to the Babasango Forest, which he described as a known hideout for criminal elements.

Responding, Major General Nnebeife assured the royal father that the Nigerian Army would intensify clearance operations in the area to flush out bandits and restore peace.

Earlier, while on an operational visit to Patrol Base Babanla, the GOC and his team advanced towards Babasango Forest, where troops successfully rescued two kidnapped victims held by armed bandits.

The Nigerian Army emphasised that it remains resolute in its commitment to eradicating banditry and ensuring lasting peace in Kwara and neighboring states.
