PICTORIAL: Troops Neutralise Two Suspected Terrorists, Recover Arms In Benue

Troops of Sector 1 under Operation Whirl Stroke have neutralised two suspected terrorists and recovered an automatic firearm during a security operation in Benue State.

This was disclosed in a statement by the Acting Media Information Officer, HQs Joint Task Force, Lt. Ahmad Zubairu Zubairu, and shared on the Nigerian’s army Facebook page on Monday.

According to the statement, the operation was conducted along the Katsina-Ala–Zaki Biam Road, followed credible intelligence from residents on plans by criminal elements to disrupt peace in Amafu, Iwer area of the state.

It was gathered that the troops made contact with suspected bandits upon arrival at the identified location.

In the ensuing firefight, two of the suspects were neutralised, while others reportedly fled into nearby bushes with gunshot wounds.

Following the engagement, the troops recovered one AK-47 rifle, a loaded magazine, eight rounds of 7.62mm special ammunition, and a pair of green camouflage uniforms.

The Force Commander of Operation Whirl Stroke, Major General Moses Gara, commended the troops for their gallantry and professionalism.

He noted that their swift response and proactive posture continue to yield positive results in ongoing efforts to combat terrorism and banditry in the state.

Gara also lauded members of the local communities for providing timely and actionable intelligence, describing such cooperation as critical to operational success.

He urged residents to sustain collaboration with security agencies and assured them of the military’s commitment to safeguarding lives and property.

The commander further encouraged troops to maintain synergy with other security agencies and relevant stakeholders, stressing that collective efforts remain vital to achieving lasting security and stability across the Joint Operations Area.

Operation Whirl Stroke is a military task force deployed to address security challenges in parts of North-Central Nigeria, including Benue State.
