The Plateau State Independent Electoral Commission (PLASIEC) has released a revised timetable for the conduct of the 2026 Local Government elections, fixing the 1st of September, 2026, as the date for the polls.
The updated schedule was unveiled by the Chairman of the commission, Plangji Cishak, during a media briefing held on Friday at PLASIEC headquarters in Jos.
Cishak explained that the review of the electoral calendar was necessitated by what he described as “legal, administrative, and operational considerations,” noting that the changes are intended to guarantee a transparent, inclusive and credible electoral exercise.
“In keeping with our statutory responsibility and core values of transparency, excellence, and stakeholder inclusiveness, it has become imperative to call for this briefing to formally review very critical activities preparatory to the elections,” Cishak stated.
He outlined key milestones in the new timetable, noting that “Party primaries will hold between January 12 and 30, 2026.
“Collection and submission of nomination forms will take place between February 2 and March 2, 2026.”
