Plateau Killings: Berom Youths Accuse MACBAN, Demand Swift Action

The Berom Youths Moulder-Association (BYM) has strongly condemned what it described as coordinated attacks on Jol community in Riyom Local Government Area and Gero in Gyel District of Jos South LGA, Plateau State.

It was gathered that the attacks, which occurred on the 6th of January, 2026, claimed several lives.

Those reportedly killed include Mr. Pius Luka Dida, Markus Danladi, Peter, and Acham Ayuba, among others, leaving the affected communities in grief and shock.

Reacting to the incident, BYM leader, Dalyop Solomon Mwantiri, described the attacks as a “grim reminder of the sustained and systematic terror being unleashed on indigenous communities of Plateau State.” He expressed deep concern over the recurring violence and its devastating impact on lives and livelihoods in the area.

In a press statement signed by the association’s National Publicity Secretary, Rwang Tengwong, BYM accused the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria (MACBAN) of complicity in the attacks. The group faulted the association’s chairman for what it described as a false narrative, particularly the claim that “Berom terrorists” were responsible for attacks on Fulani persons.

“The attacks have also led to significant economic losses, with armed herders destroying dry-season farmlands in Kwi, inflicting losses of over ₦14 million on local farmers,” the statement added.

In addition, the association demanded prompt compensation for families of those killed and affected farmers, as well as improved security measures to safeguard vulnerable communities across Plateau State. BYM stressed that urgent intervention was necessary to halt further bloodshed and restore peace to the region.
