A collective operating as the Plateau State Muslim Indigenes (PSMI) has criticised Governor Caleb Mutfwang for what it calls selective sympathy and exclusion in the government’s response to recent violence in the state.
In a statement released on Monday, the 21st of July, 2025, the Secretary General of the group, Alhaji Kabiru Gwamlar, expressed concern over the government’s silence following violent incidents in Wase and Kanam local government areas.
He noted that more than 70 vigilantes were reportedly killed, with several villages destroyed, yet no official reaction came from the Governor.
The group alleged that Governor Mutfwang ignored the suffering of Muslim communities affected by the attacks and failed to offer any visit or message of condolence to bereaved families.
Gwamlar questioned the Governor’s consistent promptness in condemning attacks on Christian communities while often issuing what he called “belated and half-hearted” responses when Muslims are targeted.

He urged Mutfwang to uphold his promise to treat all Plateau residents equally, regardless of their ethnic or religious identity.
The group also rejected the narrative that Plateau is a Christian-dominated state.
Gwamlar stressed that Nigeria is a secular country where everyone Muslims, Christians, and traditionalists has the right to religious freedom wherever they reside.
He praised former Governor Simon Lalong’s inclusive approach, describing him as “Muslim-friendly,” and advised the current administration to follow that example.
