Arsenal head coach Mikel Arteta has addressed growing criticism from fans over his consistent transfer dealings with Premier League rivals Chelsea, offering a firm defense of his decisions and clarifying the club’s stance on the matter.
The Gunners have signed a string of players from Chelsea over the past three seasons under Arteta’s leadership, sparking unease among sections of the Arsenal fanbase who feel the club is becoming a dumping ground for Chelsea’s surplus.
From Kai Havertz and Jorginho to Raheem Sterling, and most recently, goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga and winger Noni Madueke, the pattern has become hard to ignore.
In response to the criticism, Arteta remained composed and unapologetic when asked about the trend in a press conference earlier today.
“Probably because they have some great players, and a lot of players,” Arteta said when asked why Arsenal continues to target Chelsea talent.
“We try to focus on the players that we want to sign regardless of the club that they are in.”
Arteta emphasized that each signing is made with a strategic vision, dismissing the notion that Arsenal is simply picking up Chelsea cast-offs.

Many supporters had raised eyebrows particularly at the signing of Raheem Sterling last season, followed by the recent double swoop for Kepa and Madueke this summer.
Concerns over age, injuries, and fit into Arsenal’s system have been at the core of the backlash.
However, insiders at the club suggest Arteta sees value in leveraging players with Premier League experience who can immediately integrate into his high-pressing, possession-based style.
The Spaniard, now in his sixth season with Arsenal, has made it clear that pedigree and tactical compatibility outweigh any rivalry politics.
Despite the controversy, Arsenal remains one of the league’s title contenders, and Arteta will hope that on-pitch success will silence the critics — Chelsea connection or not.
