The Plateau State Police Command has reassured residents of sustained security and heightened vigilance following tensions sparked by the escalating conflict between the United States and Iran.
The renewed alert comes in the wake of reports of protests in parts of Nigeria by members of the Islamic Movement of Nigeria (IMN), also known as Shi’ites, who have taken to the streets to express anger over the bombardment of Iran and the reported killing of Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
In a statement issued Tuesday in Jos, the Command’s spokesman, DSP Alfred Alabo, speaking on behalf of the Commissioner of Police, CP Bassey Ewah, said the state remains stable but proactive steps have been taken to prevent any breakdown of law and order.
“While Plateau State remains stable and our internal security situation firmly under control, we have reinforced proactive, intelligence-led policing measures to guarantee continued peace and security,” the statement read.
According to the police, surveillance has been heightened across the state, with intensified intelligence gathering and strategic collaboration with other security agencies.
The command also disclosed that it has strengthened engagement with traditional rulers, religious leaders, and opinion leaders to forestall the spread of tension linked to global developments.
Enhanced visibility policing has been deployed around worship centres, major public spaces, and other sensitive locations, aimed at ensuring rapid response to any attempt to exploit the international crisis to incite unrest.
CP Ewah warned that Plateau State would not be allowed to serve as a battleground for foreign conflicts or imported ideological disputes.

He stressed that any attempt to destabilise the state under the guise of external religious or political tensions would attract the full weight of the law.
Residents have been urged to remain calm and law-abiding while maintaining vigilance.
The command encouraged the public to report suspicious movements or activities to the nearest police formation or through designated emergency channels.
For many residents, the reassurance offers a measure of calm amid global uncertainty. Community leaders in Jos and other parts of the state have echoed the police call for restraint, emphasising the need to preserve Plateau’s fragile peace and protect lives and property.
As international tensions continue to reverberate beyond national borders, authorities say local stability remains their top priority, with security agencies on alert to prevent any spillover effects within the state.
