The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of one Samsideen Oladiti, popularly known as “Shamelon”, aged 55, over his alleged involvement in two violent crimes on Lagos Island, including a case of assault and a fatal attack that led to murder.
According to a statement by the Deputy Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Babaseyi Oluseyi, on Friday, the suspect is currently being held at the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti-Yaba, where detectives have opened a discreet investigation into the incidents.
Police reports indicate that on September 17, 2025, at about 3:00 pm, Oladiti allegedly attacked a dispatch rider on Lagos Island, hitting him repeatedly with a helmet and his fists.
The victim was rushed to hospital in critical condition, placed on oxygen, and is presently receiving treatment.
Further complaints linked the same suspect to an earlier assault case on August 28, 2025. During that altercation, he allegedly used a metallic ring to strike another victim multiple times on the head and face, leaving him with severe injuries.
Despite medical efforts, the victim was confirmed dead on September 17, and his remains have been deposited in the mortuary for autopsy.
Following news of the death, sympathisers of the deceased stormed the suspect’s office in Sandgrouse Market on Lagos Island in protest.
The demonstration escalated into violence, with two motorcycles belonging to the suspect set ablaze.
