The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested a 28-year-old Almajiri teacher, Lawal Nasiru, for allegedly assaulting an 11-year-old pupil, Sa’id Sani, in Darazo Local Government Area of the state.
Police spokesman, SP Ahmed Wakil, disclosed the development in a statement on Tuesday, noting that the incident was reported on September 22, 2025, by a community member, Idris Mohammed, who accompanied the injured child to the Darazo Divisional Police Headquarters.
According to the statement, Nasiru allegedly tied the boy with a heavy rope before beating him with a stick and thick cable, leaving him with multiple injuries on his hands and legs.
“Upon receipt of the complaint, the Divisional Police Officer, SP Auwalu Ilu, led a team of operatives to the scene where the suspect was arrested. The victim was immediately taken to General Hospital, Darazo, for medical examination and treatment,” Wakil said.

During interrogation, Nasiru admitted to the assault, claiming that the boy had attempted to flee from the school. He said he restrained the pupil to prevent him from escaping before his parents could be informed.
Wakil added that the minor also narrated how he was mercilessly tied and confined for a prolonged period.
The Commissioner of Police, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further investigation, assuring that the suspect would be profiled and charged in court once inquiries are completed.
