Police Arrest Armed Robbery Suspects, Recover Weapons in Plateau Crackdown

Operatives of the Plateau State Police Command have arrested several suspected armed robbers and informants linked to bandit networks, in a series of intelligence-led operations aimed at strengthening security across the state.

The arrests were announced on Saturday by the Commissioner of Police, Bassey Ewah, during a media briefing at the command headquarters in Jos, where recovered weapons and other exhibits were displayed.

According to Ewah, the operations led to the recovery of three locally fabricated AK-47 rifles, two locally made revolvers, as well as other pistols and improvised firearms believed to have been used in criminal activities.

He noted that the success of the operations was largely due to credible intelligence provided by members of the public, whom he commended for their cooperation with security agencies.

“We want to thank our partners out there for believing in us, for trusting in us, and sharing information that has led to the removal of these firearms,” he said.

The police chief highlighted a specific operation in Langtang South Local Government Area, where suspected armed robbers were apprehended following a report by a victim.

He explained that the Divisional Police Officer acted promptly in collaboration with the Armed Robbery Section of the Criminal Investigation Department to effect the arrests.

Ewah stressed that the command remains committed to protecting lives and property, while also maintaining openness to feedback from the public to improve its operations.

“We are open to criticism because it is only when you are criticised that you know where you are not doing well,” he added.

The commissioner further disclosed that the suspects include individuals accused of aiding kidnapping and banditry through information sharing.

He assured that all those arrested would be charged to court, where the legality of their actions and possession of weapons would be determined.

He also acknowledged the role of the Plateau State Ministry of Justice, particularly the Attorney General, in ensuring diligent prosecution of criminal cases, and praised the media for helping to highlight police efforts.

The latest development underscores ongoing efforts by law enforcement authorities to curb violent crime in Plateau State, while reinforcing the importance of community collaboration in tackling insecurity.
