The Ondo State Police Command has arrested five suspected members of a secret cult group following a swift operation in Akungba Akoko, authorities confirmed.
The operation, carried out by the Command’s Special Anti-Cultism Squad, was executed on March 27, 2026, after police received credible intelligence from residents about a suspicious gathering at a residential building in the university town.
This was made known in a statement signed by the State Police Public Relations Officer,
Dsp Abayomi Jimoh, on Sunday.
According to the Commissioner of Police, Adebowale Lawal, officers were immediately deployed to the scene, where they tactically secured the area and apprehended the suspects without incident.
Those arrested were identified as Adesuye Dare, Ayeerun Joshua, Ojo Omole, Adu Dele, and Akeju Idowu.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the suspects are affiliated with the Eiye Confraternity, a group widely linked to violent crimes and unlawful activities across parts of Nigeria.
Police said the individuals were allegedly holding a secret meeting, chanting slogans and engaging in conduct consistent with cult operations at the time of the raid.
The PPRO noted that the suspects are currently in custody and have provided statements that are aiding ongoing investigations.

He reiterated the Command’s zero-tolerance policy toward cultism and other forms of criminality.
Lawal also urged young people to avoid involvement in cult-related activities, warning of serious legal consequences, and called on parents and guardians to remain vigilant.
The police said the suspects will be charged to court upon completion of investigations, assuring residents that justice will be pursued.
Citizens were further encouraged to continue providing useful information to security agencies, with a guarantee of confidentiality.
