The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a suspected armed robber, recovered a firearm and other dangerous weapons during a routine operation in Igbotako, Odigbo Local Government Area of the state.
The arrest was carried out on Wednesday, June 17, 2026, by surveillance operatives attached to the Igbotako Division while conducting patrol and intelligence-driven surveillance around Omotosho Motor Park, along the Lagos/Ore Expressway.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, made this known in a statement on Sunday.
According to the Command, the operatives noticed the suspicious movement of a 29-year-old man identified as Temitope Ikumuniwon, a native of Odigbo, who was preparing to board a commercial vehicle heading to Iju-Oke.
His suspicious behaviour prompted the officers to conduct a stop-and-search operation. A thorough search of a cross-body bag in his possession led to the discovery of one locally-made pistol, one live cartridge and one battle axe.
The suspect was immediately taken into custody, while the recovered items were secured as exhibits.
The Police said preliminary investigation is ongoing to establish the source of the firearm, the purpose for which the weapons were intended and the suspect’s possible involvement in armed robbery and other criminal activities within and outside the area.
