Police Arrest Three Suspects Over Killing Of Kano Housewife, Six Children

The Kano State Police Command has announced the arrest of three key suspects linked to the brutal killing of a housewife and her six children in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano, a crime that has sparked outrage across the state.

The arrests were made following intelligence-driven operations carried out on the directive of the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, and coordinated under the supervision of the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, according to a police statement issued on Sunday.

The Police Public Relations Officer, CSP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, said the suspects were apprehended during an overnight sting operation by a team of specialised operatives acting on credible intelligence.

The suspects were identified as Umar Auwalu, 23, of Sabuwar Gandu Quarters; Isyaku Yakubu, also known as Chebe, 40, of Sagagi Quarters; and Yakubu Abdulaziz, popularly called Wawo, 21, of Sabon Gida Sharada Quarters.

Police said Umar Auwalu, alleged to be the ringleader of the group and a nephew of the deceased, confessed to planning the attack.

During interrogation, he reportedly admitted that the syndicate had been involved in other violent crimes, including the killing and burning of two housewives in Tudun Yola Quarters in recent times.

Items recovered from the suspects include blood-stained clothing, two mobile phones belonging to the victims, a cutlass, a club locally known as “gora,” and an undisclosed sum of money allegedly taken from the scene of the crime.

The police described the recoveries as vital to ongoing investigations, noting that efforts were still underway to uncover the full extent of the suspects’ criminal activities.

Commending the officers involved, the Command also thanked residents for their cooperation and support, assuring the public of its commitment to ensuring justice.

The gruesome killings have continued to draw widespread condemnation, with renewed calls for heightened community vigilance and cooperation with security agencies across Kano State.
