Police Arrest Two Over Alleged Trafficking Plot In Bauchi

The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested two suspects over alleged human trafficking and related offences, following a complaint by a 20-year-old woman in the state.

In a statement issued on Friday, the Police Public Relations Officer, Nafiu Abubakar, said operatives of the E Divisional Police Headquarters had commenced investigations into a case involving criminal conspiracy, human trafficking, assault, extortion and defamation.

According to the statement, the matter was reported by Ebere Wilson, a resident of Wuntin Dada, who alleged that she was assaulted on February 11, 2026, and had her mobile phone — a blue Tecno Spark 4 — confiscated by one Gloria Joseph.

Preliminary investigations, the police said, revealed that Joseph allegedly conspired with another suspect, identified as Light Mandis, in an attempt to lure Wilson and her friend, Mercy, to Ghana under the pretext of securing opportunities, but with the alleged intent of forcing them into prostitution.

Police authorities said the case has since been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further and more detailed investigation.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Sani-Omolori Aliyu, has directed that the suspects be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.

The command reiterated its commitment to tackling human trafficking and protecting vulnerable persons, urging members of the public to promptly report suspicious movements or recruitment schemes that may endanger young people.
