Police Arrest Two Over Movement Of Firearm Linked To Effurun Killing

Police operatives have reportedly arrested two persons in connection with the movement of a Beretta pistol and ammunition allegedly linked to the killing of 28-year-old Oghenemine Ogidi in Effurun, Delta State.

The suspects were said to have been apprehended as part of ongoing investigations into how the firearm allegedly used in the incident was transported from Yenagoa, Bayelsa State, to Effurun.

Sources familiar with the investigation disclosed that one of those arrested is believed to be the individual who allegedly sent the pistol and four rounds of ammunition through a transport service from Yenagoa.

Authorities reportedly suspect that the weapon later became connected to the fatal shooting involving Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Nuhu Usman.

According to sources, the two suspects were brought to the Effurun Area Command under the Delta State Police Command on Wednesday night for further questioning.

Although the Delta State Police Command has yet to release an official statement on the arrests, a source close to the investigation confirmed the development.

“It’s confirmed. They just brought in two suspects Wednesday night,” the source reportedly said.

The source further alleged that one of the suspects was responsible for dispatching the firearm from Yenagoa to Effurun, where the deceased, popularly known as “Mine,” allegedly picked up the parcel before intending to deliver it to an owner in Sapele.

“It’s not been announced who is who yet, but I can tell you for free that one of them is the person who sent the gun through a transport line from Yenagoa to Effurun, from where Mine picked it to send to a Sapele owner at the Effurun Motor Park where he was caught and extrajudicially killed by ASP Nuhu and accomplices,” the source added.

The source also noted that investigators were still working to determine whether the second suspect was the driver who transported the parcel from Yenagoa.

“Like I said, it’s not clear if the other person among the two could be the driver who brought the parcel from Yenagoa. But it’s clear that the sender is among the duo just apprehended. And the trail continues for the other suspects,” the source stated.

The death of Ogidi has continued to spark public outrage and emotional reactions, amid allegations that he was extrajudicially killed after being intercepted at the Effurun Motor Park.

The incident also drew attention after members of the victim’s family, including his mother, publicly questioned the circumstances surrounding the deaths of her sons.
