Police Arrest Two Suspected Cable Vandals, Recover Stolen Electric Cables In Delta

Operatives of the Delta State Police Command have arrested two suspected electric cable vandals in Kwale, Ndokwa West Local Government Area of the state, following an intelligence-led operation.

The police also recovered vandalised electric cables allegedly stolen by the suspects.

The Police Public Relations Officer of the Delta State Command, SP Bright Edafe, disclosed the development in a statement made available to journalists in Warri on Saturday.

According to Edafe, the operation was carried out on June 25 by operatives attached to the Kwale Police Station in collaboration with members of a local vigilante group after receiving credible intelligence about suspected vandals operating along the Ibabu–Ugiliamai Road.

“On June 25, 2026, at about 10:30 a.m., operatives of Kwale Police Station, in a combined effort with members of the vigilante group, acting on credible intelligence that suspected vandals were dismantling and stealing electric cables along the Ibabu–Ugiliamai Road, swiftly mobilised to the scene,” the statement read.

The police spokesman said the suspects attempted to flee upon sighting the security team but were eventually apprehended during the operation.

“Upon sighting the team, the suspects attempted to evade arrest.

“During the ensuing operation, one of the suspects sustained injury and is presently receiving treatment at the hospital, while one of the suspects is in custody,” Edafe stated.

He identified the suspects as Osakwe Sunday, 28, and Ekene Obocha, 34.

According to the statement, the vandalised electric cables allegedly stolen by the suspects were recovered and have been retained as exhibits.

“The suspects were later identified as Osakwe Sunday, 28, and Ekene Obocha, 34.

“The vandalised electric cables have been recovered as exhibits,” the statement added.

Reacting to the arrest, the Commissioner of Police in Delta State, CP Yemi Oyeniyi, warned criminal elements against vandalising government infrastructure and other public assets.

He stressed that the command would continue to intensify efforts to identify, arrest and prosecute individuals involved in acts of vandalism and other criminal activities across the state.

The police commissioner also appealed to residents to continue supporting law enforcement agencies by providing timely and credible information capable of preventing crime and aiding investigations.

He assured members of the public that the command remains committed to protecting critical infrastructure and ensuring the safety of lives and property throughout Delta State.
