The Taraba State Police Command has detained a police inspector and his girlfriend following the reported disappearance of an assault rifle along the Wukari–Jootar Federal Highway.
According to multiple reports on Saturday, the missing firearm belongs to Inspector Joshua Charles, 45, who is attached to the Safer Highway Patrol team in the state.
It was gathered that the inspector allegedly left his duty post for Wukari town, leaving behind three other officers — Inspectors Haruna Galadima, Isah Waziri and Umar Mohammed — who remained on duty at the patrol point.
The report further disclosed that the inspector’s girlfriend, one Ruth Alphancis of the Sabon Gari area in Jalingo, who has been living with him since August 2025, returned from Jootar village in Benue State and claimed she saw an unidentified person breaking out of the house.
She added that when the inspector later returned from Wukari town, he discovered that his Type 06 assault rifle, reportedly loaded with 25 rounds of live ammunition and kept in the room, was missing.
