The Airport Police Command has arrested Adewale Abiodun, a driver with the Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority (LAMATA), over a fatal accident that claimed the life of a 19-year-old female pedestrian at the Airport Bus Stop area of Ikeja, Lagos.
The accident occurred on Friday, January 9, 2026, when the victim had just alighted from a LAMATA-operated bus and was crossing the road. She was struck by the vehicle and sustained severe injuries.
She was rushed to the Air Force Base Hospital in Ikeja, where she was confirmed dead on arrival.

Following the incident, the driver reportedly fled the scene, prompting an investigation by the Airport Police Command.
A manhunt was launched in collaboration with LAMATA officials, leading to Abiodun’s arrest on Monday, January 12, 2026.
Police authorities confirmed that the suspect is currently in custody and has made a statement, while investigations continue to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash and possible prosecution.
The command warned motorists against reckless driving and reiterated its commitment to enforcing traffic laws to prevent avoidable loss of lives on Lagos roads.
