The Lagos State Police Command has exhumed the remains of 28-year-old Adedamola Ogunbode, a graduate of Lagos State University (LASU), who was buried in a shallow grave behind the university’s fence in Ojo.
Ogunbode, a Political Science Education graduate, was reported missing on 16 January. Police later arrested four suspects linked to his murder and launched a manhunt for four others. The suspects allegedly transferred all the money from his bank account and shared it among themselves.
State Police Public Relations Officer CSP Benjamin Hundeyin, who was present at the exhumation site on Wednesday, March 12, said one of the suspects led officers to the grave.
“January 16 was when all this started after a report was received by the Ojo Police Division that the young man went missing,” he said.
Hundeyin explained that after Commissioner of Police Olohundare Jimoh assumed duty on 18 February, he directed the State Criminal Investigation Department to take over the case.

“That was when the case was upgraded from that of a missing person to a case of suspected murder.
“This led to the arrest of one of the principal suspects who did not only confess to killing the young man but also led us here, where the victim was buried,” he said.
The police spokesman assured that efforts were ongoing to apprehend the remaining suspects.
“Now that we have seen the body, the investigation is gradually coming to an end. We will intensify efforts to apprehend the remaining suspects,” he said.
Hundeyin also promised that justice would be served.
“The suspects will definitely be prosecuted to ensure that justice is served. We use this opportunity to commiserate with the family of the deceased. We also thank the Lagos State Government for its immense support in every area of crime fighting within the state,” he said.
