Police Foil Human Trafficking, Kidnap Attempt, Rescue Victims in Nationwide Crackdown

The Nigeria Police Force says it has recorded major breakthroughs in separate cases of human trafficking and kidnapping, rescuing two victims and arresting three suspects in operations across Enugu and Taraba States.

The Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, disclosed this in a statement on Friday, stating that the successes highlight the NPF’s “unyielding commitment” to dismantling criminal networks nationwide.

On July 30, 2025, operatives of the Enugu State Police Command intercepted 30-year-old Raymond Sunday Wonna along the Enugu–Onitsha Expressway.

He was allegedly transporting two young women, 18-year-old Miracle Ogar and 16-year-old Angela Kingsley who had been lured from Ogoja, Cross River State, under the false promise of jobs in Ghana.

The statement further revealed that Wonna intended to take the victims to work in a restaurant reportedly owned by his “baby mama” in Ghana, without the knowledge or consent of their parents.

The suspect, however, allegedly attempted to sexually assault the female victims while lodging them in a hotel before departure.

The police disclosed that the victims have since been reunited with their families, while the force continue efforts to track other members of the trafficking network.

In a separate operation on August 13, 2025, Taraba State Police Command, working with local security outfits, raided Mahadi Forest in Gassol LGA and arrested two suspected kidnappers, 20-year-old Yahaya Umar and 47-year-old Mohammed Umar.

An AK-47 rifle was recovered during the raid.

The police noted that the suspects confessed to belonging to a syndicate responsible for several attacks in Plateau and Taraba States.

The Inspector-General of Police Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun commended the operatives for their swift action and vigilance, assuring the public of the Force’s continued commitment to safety.

Egbetokun ordered thorough investigations and prosecution of all those involved.

Egbetokun also urged citizens to remain vigilant and share credible information with security agencies, stressing that intelligence-led operations remain critical in the fight against crime.
