The Nigeria Police Force in Yobe State has arrested seven suspected members of a criminal syndicate linked to burglary, theft and phone snatching in Damaturu.
The arrests were carried out by operatives of ‘A’ Division during a coordinated operation conducted between April 16 and 19 across several parts of the state capital.
This was disclosed in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Dungus Abdulkarim.
According to him, the operation targeted criminal hotspots including Nayinawa, Bindigari, One Million Road and Pompomari areas.
He described the arrests as a major breakthrough in the command’s ongoing efforts to curb crime and restore public safety across the state.
The suspects were identified as Usman Mohd (20), Abubakar Adamu (20), Mohd Ibrahim (22), Mohd Goni (19), Khalifa Mohd (19), Abubakar Mohammed (19) and Ali Mohammed (23).
Abdulkarim said the suspects confessed to multiple criminal activities during interrogation, admitting their involvement in a series of burglary, theft and phone snatching incidents within the affected communities.
He added that the suspects disclosed stealing seven Android phones and two keypad phones, with six of the stolen devices already recovered by the police.

The spokesperson noted that investigations were still ongoing and assured that the suspects would be prosecuted upon conclusion of the process.
Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Usman Kanfani Jibrin, commended the operatives for their professionalism and dedication.
He charged them to sustain the momentum by intensifying operations against criminal hideouts across the state.
Jibrin also emphasised the importance of intelligence-driven policing, urging residents to support security agencies with credible information to aid the fight against crime.
The development comes amid continued efforts by law enforcement authorities to tackle rising cases of theft and street crime in parts of the country.
