The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the arrest of a suspect in connection with the killing of a youth leader in Isua Akoko, headquarters of Akoko South East Local Government Area.
The victim, Ojo Abbey, popularly known as Obesere, was reportedly abducted by gunmen while returning from Edo State on February 22, 2026, and was later found dead.
His vehicle, a Nissan Almera with registration number KJA 440 DB, was recovered by police.
Sources in the community said that following the abduction, local youths and hunters organised search parties to comb the surrounding forest in a bid to rescue him.
In a statement, the Commissioner of Police in Ondo State, Adebowale Lawal, said security forces had intensified surveillance and strategic deployments across the area and along the Ondo–Edo boundary to prevent further attacks and ensure the arrest of other suspects.
“The incident was reported at Isua Division at about 1945hrs on 22nd February, 2026. Upon receipt of the report, the Divisional Police Officer immediately mobilised patrol teams to the scene.

The command commiserates with the family of the deceased and assures the public that the perpetrators of this heinous crime will be brought to justice,” the statement partly read.
Meanwhile, the Isua Youth Forum condemned the killing as a reflection of rising insecurity in the area and urged Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa to intervene.
In a statement signed by its National President, Abimbola Oluwafemi, the group called on the police and other security agencies to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation.
“Every individual involved in this heinous crime must be identified, apprehended, and brought to book. Justice must not only be done but must be seen to be done.
The people of Isua and our local government area are watching, and we demand decisive action,” the statement added.
