The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old student of the University of Cross River State over a viral video showing gunfire from a moving vehicle on the campus in Calabar.
The suspect, Emmanuel Ejim, was arrested in connection with the video, which circulated in the early hours of September 17, 2026.
The Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Sunday Eitokpah, disclosed this in a statement on Saturday in Calabar.
The police spokesman said the Commissioner of Police, CP Ajo Ordue, had ordered the immediate identification and arrest of those involved after the video went viral, adding that operatives of the Violence Crime Response Unit, led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Operations, tracked the vehicle captured in the footage around 11:30 p.m. on September 17, 2026.
The statement read, “The Cross River State Police Command has arrested a 24-year-old man, Emmanuel Ejim Ejim, in connection with a viral video believed to depict suspected cult members in a moving vehicle allegedly firing shots sporadically within the Calabar metropolis.
“The arrest followed the circulation of the video, believed to depict the incident in the early hours of 17 September 2026, and the directive of the Commissioner of Police, Cross River State Command, CP Ajo Geoffrey Ordue, for the immediate identification and apprehension of those involved.”
ASP Eitokpah said the driver of the vehicle was arrested first, and information obtained from him led detectives to a hotel in Calabar, where Ejim was picked up.
The police said the suspect allegedly identified himself during questioning as a leader of the Vikings Confraternity and allegedly admitted to being the person seen firing shots in the video.
“Preliminary investigation identified the key suspect as Emmanuel Ejim Ejim, male, 24 years. The suspect, a student of the University of Cross River State, UNICROSS, allegedly identified himself during questioning as a leader of the Vikings Confraternity and allegedly admitted to being the person seen firing the shots in the viral video,” the statement said.

The police said Ejim claimed he had participated in a sign-out activity on the day of the incident and that the pistol allegedly used was handed to him by another suspected member of the group.
The police spokesperson said efforts had been intensified to arrest other persons connected with the incident, while the investigation into how the firearm was obtained continued.
He added that the Commissioner of Police had directed a thorough investigation and warned that the unlawful discharge of firearms in public places posed serious security risks.
“The suspect further allegedly stated that he participated in a sign-out activity on the day of the incident and that the pistol allegedly used in the video was handed to him by another suspected member of the group.
“Police operatives have intensified efforts to identify and apprehend other persons connected with the incident, while the circumstances surrounding the possession of the firearm and the movement of the vehicle remain subjects of investigation,” the statement read.
