Ebonyi State Governor, Francis Nwifuru, has removed the Commissioner for Works, Stanley Lebechi Mbam, from office with immediate effect.
The decision was announced on Saturday, September 19, 2026, by the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Monday Uzor.
Mbam was directed to hand over all government property in his possession, including his official vehicle, to the Secretary to the State Government and transfer the ministry’s affairs to the Permanent Secretary pending further directives.
No reason was given for his removal.

The action comes four months after Nwifuru recalled Mbam from an earlier suspension. The governor had suspended him indefinitely on February 28, 2026, alongside the Commissioner for Infrastructure Development for Concession, Ogbonnaya Obasi-Abara, over alleged dereliction of duty.
Mbam later appealed for another opportunity to serve and was recalled on May 3, 2026.
His latest removal comes against the backdrop of Nwifuru’s previous disciplinary measures involving government appointees. In July 2025, the governor suspended 87 officials, including 25 commissioners, for failing to attend an official government function.
The Permanent Secretary will oversee the Ministry of Works pending further directives from the governor.
