Police Seal Lagos Trade Fair Complex After Cult Attack

The Balogun Business Association (BBA) Trade Fair Complex in Lagos was on Monday, May 4, 2026, sealed off by the Lagos State Police Command following a violent disturbance involving suspected thugs and cultists.

Traders who arrived at the complex early on Monday morning met locked gates, while several police vans were stationed at the entrance, with security operatives cordoning off access to the premises.

In an official notice issued to members and customers, the association said the closure was ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, following the unrest which reportedly occurred a day earlier through the New Site axis of the complex.

The statement alleged that armed hoodlums invaded the complex and shot sporadically, triggering panic.

It further claimed that one person was killed during the incident, although this has not been independently confirmed by the police.

The President of the Balogun Business Association, Chief Hon. Oscar Paul Ikechukwu, said the decision to temporarily shut the complex was taken to prevent a further breakdown of law and order and to allow security agencies restore normalcy.

He added that the association’s Board of Trustees and other stakeholders were already engaging the police and relevant authorities to address the situation and ensure safe resumption of business activities.

Members and customers were urged to remain calm, avoid the complex for now, and comply fully with security directives as investigations continue.

The association expressed regret over the disruption, reiterating that the safety and welfare of traders, customers, and the public remain its highest priority.

Further updates are expected as security agencies assess the situation and work toward restoring order in the area.
