President Tinubu Mourns Former Inspector-General of Police Solomon Arase

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has expressed deep sorrow over the passing of former Inspector-General of Police, Solomon Ehigiator Arase (CFR), who died on Sunday at the age of 69.

In a condolence message shared by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga, the President commiserated with the Nigeria Police Force, as well as the family, friends, and associates of the late security chief, describing him as a resourceful officer whose career left an indelible mark on law enforcement in Nigeria.

President Tinubu highlighted Arase’s notable reforms during his tenure as the 18th indigenous Inspector-General of Police and later as Chairman of the Police Service Commission, crediting him with impactful initiatives such as the Intelligence Response Team, Complaint Response Unit, and Safer Highway Patrols.

“Arase served the police force meritoriously from 1981 to 2016,” the President said, noting his leadership across tactical, operational, and intelligence units, including UN Peacekeeping operations in Namibia, his role as Commissioner of Police in Akwa Ibom, and his service as Principal Staff Officer to three IGPs.

Beyond his policing career, Arase continued to serve the nation in various capacities, including as Chairman of the Police Service Commission, head of the Edo State Task Force on Anti-Community Development Associations, and consultant to both national and international institutions. His expertise also extended to global human rights and anti-torture initiatives.

Praying for the peaceful repose of the late officer’s soul, President Tinubu said Arase’s wealth of experience, dedication to public service, and contributions to national security would be sorely missed.
