The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has formally confirmed the entry of former Labour Party vice-presidential candidate, Yusuf Datti Baba-Ahmed, describing his move as a significant boost to its political structure and reform agenda.
In a statement issued on Thursday, April 30, 2026, the party said Baba-Ahmed’s alignment with its platform signals what it called “a new dawn” for the PRP, reinforcing its longstanding push for political and economic restructuring in Nigeria.
The development comes after Baba-Ahmed’s exit from the Labour Party, where he contested as vice-presidential candidate in the 2023 general election.
His defection had earlier been attributed to internal disagreements within the party and concerns over its ideological direction.

The PRP said his arrival, alongside his supporters across the country, would strengthen its efforts to promote accountable governance, institutional reforms, improved security architecture and economic recovery.
Reiterating its ideological stance, the party said its platform remains open to Nigerians committed to national renewal, stressing that its mission is focused on rebuilding public trust in governance through practical and measurable reforms.
It also restated its five-point agenda, which prioritises restoring credibility in leadership, tackling insecurity through structural reforms, revitalising the economy, and pursuing restructuring aimed at improving fairness, efficiency and balance in governance.
According to the party, the agenda is designed to translate policy direction into tangible results, particularly in education, healthcare delivery and rural development.
The PRP urged Nigerians to support its vision, insisting that sustained institutional reform remains critical to addressing the country’s governance, security and economic challenges.
