In a heartwarming turn of events, Governor Ademola Adeleke of Osun State has offered a life-changing opportunity to 30-year-old Oluwatosin Adejumo, a determined puff-puff seller, by appointing her as a chef at the Osun State Government House.
Oluwatosin, a Home Economics graduate with a Nigerian Certificate in Education (NCE), had been battling through hardship following the loss of her mother four years ago. With limited support and dwindling options, she resorted to running a modest puff-puff business to make ends meet.
“After graduation, I lost my mum, and that made it impossible for me to continue with my education,” Oluwatosin recounted.
“Along the way, I met another mother figure, Mrs. Funmilayo Grace Ajakaiye, a caterer. I followed her to work, saved some money, and with the help of suppliers who gave me goods on credit, I began selling puff-puff and repaid them after sales.”
Her turning point came during a recent solidarity walk led by Governor Adeleke. The governor, amidst cheers from supporters, noticed Oluwatosin selling by the roadside and called her forward.
Moved by her story and entrepreneurial spirit, he bought out her entire stock, gifted her ₦50,000 in cash, and invited her into the government circle.

“As I was selling puff-puff, I joined the crowd in cheering for the governor,” she said.
“That was when he noticed me, asked the price, and after buying everything, he invited me inside. When he learned I was a graduate, he handed me over to the Commissioner of Affairs and Protocol.”
Governor Adeleke’s gesture did not stop at a one-time cash gift. He later announced Oluwatosin’s formal appointment as a chef at the Osun State Government House, effectively ending her need to rely on street vending for survival.
The appointment has been widely applauded across the state, seen as a symbol of recognition for resilience, hard work, and the importance of supporting grassroots entrepreneurs.
Oluwatosin’s story now stands as a beacon of hope for many young Nigerians facing similar socioeconomic challenges — a reminder that perseverance, paired with opportunity, can lead to transformation.
