Rema Takes Home Best Male Artiste in Western Africa at AFRIMA 2026

Nigerian singer‑songwriter Rema, born Divine Ikubor, has been named Best Male Artiste in Western Africa at the 9th All Africa Music Awards (AFRIMA) in Lagos.

The award, part of the regional categories that recognise outstanding musical talent across the continent, was presented during the ceremony held on Sunday, January 11, 2026, at the Eko Convention Centre in Victoria Island.

The 9th edition of AFRIMA, a week‑long celebration of African music and culture, took place from January 7 through January 11, 2026, following a rescheduling from its original November dates.

The event drew performers, industry executives and fans from across Africa and the diaspora, with the African Union Commission, the Federal Government of Nigeria, and the Lagos State Government hosting the ceremony.

Rema emerged victorious in the highly competitive Best Male Artiste in Western Africa category, triumphing over notable regional stars including Asake, Axel Merryl, Black Sherif, Burna Boy, Davido, Didi B, Djodje, VJ, and Wizkid.

His win adds to an already impressive list of accolades for the 25‑year-old, whose breakout came with his 2019 hit “Dumebi” and who later gained global prominence with “Calm Down,” especially its remix featuring Selena Gomez, which charted internationally.

The awards ceremony also celebrated other African stars across genres, reinforcing AFRIMA’s reputation as one of the continent’s foremost platforms for recognising artistic excellence.
